We had more than 70 volunteers including tax counselors and client facilitators. The Hendersonville site is located at Hendersonville Church of Christ, 1975 Haywood Road, Hendersonville NC 28791. We operate with no appointments on a first come, first served environment. The Local Coordinator for this site is Robert Smith.

We have a second smaller site located in Mills River at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, 419 Turnpike Rd, Mills River NC 28759 . This site was started 2014 tax season. Last year, this site prepared 370 Federal returns with 4 tax counselors. The Local Coordinator for this site is Jim Spicer.

We are staffed completely by volunteers. Each must complete and pass IRS exams for certification and complete practice exercises using the IRS-supplied online software provided.

Our Volunteers are committed to protect the confidentiality and security of client data. We do not accept any compensation. No client data is kept. All returns go through three (3) steps:

(1) The first step in an Intake Review. A tax counselor interviews the client to determine if the client has all of the needed information and we can do the return.

(2) In the second step, a counselor certified for this type of return works with the client and enters the data into a IRS-supplied computer program.

(3) In the third step, a more senior counselor works with the client and reviews the return to ensure that all data has been correctly entered and the return is ready to be electronically filed. This counselor will print the return for the client, obtain necessary signatures, and electronically file both Federal and NC /SC returns.
